to those combating my “leave trans issues to trans people, leave poc issues to poc” post, my point is still the same and will not change no matter how much you proclaim the “minority needs the majority!”
help in our movements can be incredibly, well, helpful but we STILL don’t need privileged whites acting like they know the struggle of being an oppressed person. we don’t need articles written “through the eyes” of poc by white people! we don’t need articles “through the eyes” of trans people written by cis people! that is NOT progressive.
notice where i say “self realizations are cool” meaning if you want to speak on these issues realize that you are speaking from a place of privilege and do not even attempt to summarize how you think a poc or trans person would feel. say how you feel and leave our feelings to US!
your educational attempts are often misguided and down right wrong so here’s a poc asking you to stop!
“but but but education! i want to educate that’s what we need that’s what we should do you say,” you say? ok how about reblogging articles written by the oppressed?! you putting our articles into your own words and passing it off as yours (which happens A LOT) is not progressive at all. and the fact that people would rather reblog the same material from a cis white face also proves that it’s not helping.
the fact that you would even think that poc and trans people need you all of you “allies” to help us express ourselves is offensive in it’s own right. in order to spread the word, spread OUR word.

ok well here are some bookend opening statement pieces I did today (with the help of my boo) to set the stage for a piece I’m working on called “Common Misconception”.
I’m rifling through old photographs and writing about them, trying to pinpoint where exactly I realized that I didn’t quite feel like a girl and didn’t quite feel like a boy either. This kind of self-reflexive exploration is one that I’ve been doing for a while in my mind and am now trying to figure out on another level of work, visual representation, and how, just now at 20, I’m beginning to access all of these complicated, difficult gender feelings.
So glad these exist. Identifying with them hard.

ask questions if you need to (don’t get pissed if you don’t get an answer)
self realizations are cool
but don’t act like you’ve overcome your privilege
